FL Punta Gorda
Punta Gorda
Geography
Punta Gorda is located on Florida’s Gulf Coast between Fort Myers and Venice. Situated at the confluence of the tidal Peace River and Charlotte Harbor (an arm of the Gulf of Mexico), Punta Gorda is the principal city of Charlotte County. Modest in size, the city consists of 21.0 sq miles and features over 70 miles of navigable canals that all flow seaward to white sand barrier islands and the Gulf of Mexico.
Attractions
Punta Gorda is all about a leisurely lifestyle! With acres of waterfront property, residents and tourists alike relish world class fishing any way they like it: blue-water sport, back bay drifting, marsh and mangrove or surf and sand. Laishley Park Municipal Marina is one of the area’s star attractions. Located on the shore of Charlotte Harbor (Florida’s second largest harbor) the marina boasts 85 boat slips and a public boat launch, rentals and charters, a bait and tackle shop, and is flanked by a public park and The Laishley Crab Restaurant.
Although Punta Gorda is not a beachfront community per se, the beach is never too far away. For a relaxing day out locals favor the nearby Englewood Beach with its light colored sand, boardwalk and cafes; and for a sportier outing they prefer the Port Charlotte Beach complex with its tennis and basketball courts, heated swimming pool, fishing pier, playground, and concessions.
But Punta Gorda’s beautiful weather and outdoor activities aren’t confined to the water and shore; the city also features 15 parks, both active and passive, as well as a lush assortment of both public and private golf courses. And when you’re ready to head inside—whether for business or pleasure—the legendary Tamiami Trail runs through the center of the city to help keep life convenient. Whether dining out, running errands, visiting the Visual Arts Center or the Military Heritage Museum, it’s easy to get from here to there in Punta Gorda!
Real Estate
After Hurricane Charley in 2004, remarkable restorations and renovations concurrently preserved the city’s beloved fishing village past while new construction focused on modernity and convenience. From modest bungalows to custom built manses, there is a large array of resale homes, condos, villas, and new construction to fit any budget. Its canal homes and waterfront property are ideal for boating enthusiasts, while its golf communities cater to active families and retirees. Lush, quaint and rife with Florida history and charm, Punta Gorda’s growth has been thoughtfully engineered to ensure the old and the new blend nicely while maintaining the small town atmosphere that makes the city such a treasure on the Gulf Coast.
